FINE ART

ARTIST STATEMENT

Intricately weaving together elements of the human form with products such as menstruation devices, beauty tools, and pharmaceuticals I symbolize the entangled and complex web of commercial and medical consumerism women navigate.

Incorporated through sculpture and works on paper, the body is paired with birth control devices and other medical paraphernalia underscoring the heightened role of the medical industry in shaping women's experiences and choices. Creating unique surface treatments, the artistic intervention is a deliberate exploration of the intersection between the body and the products it interacts with daily, commonly containing parabens, carcinogens, or phthalates.

The incorporation of ornamental theory serves as a conceptual framework for addressing the mistreatment and objectification associated with these bodies. By decorating, the body is traumatized, emphasizing the urgent need for critical dialogue on the intersection of gender, health, and consumer culture and invites viewers to consider the broader implications of a society that mistreats its top consumer.
